Jeffrey Needs Your Prayer

We have a prayer request from Margaret Sullivan in Owego, NY for Jeffrey Talbot. He is 10 years old and has a very rare form of cancer. The tumors in his chest are close to his heart and has blood clots in his legs. He will be having heart surgery in Boston soon. He is currently in intensive care and on morphine. Jeffrey's mother's name is Kim and needs a lot of prayer also. Please pray for this family.

Mathew 21:21-22: Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
2 Corinthians 1:5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

A Tough Daily Obedience

In years past, before the convenience of modern electric machines, the tedious work was done by hand. A person’s day started when the sun rose and it ended not long after the sun set. People where occupied with the daily chores of getting three meals on the table, clean clothes on their backs, and farm their land or work a job to pay their bills. There wasn’t as much leisure time. Today, we multitask throughout the day. We go to work, come home, wash clothes, heat up diner, and even vacuum the carpet, simultaneously. With these modern machine marvels we find that we can free up hours of leisure time. Its one thing to have a machine, save you time and energy, but another to have one waste the time you saved. I remember my grandparents watching radio. That’s right watching radio with the yellow lighted numbers and the reflection of light from glass tubes from the back of the radio on the wall. It started out well giving us news from around the world, but it also took away something valuable, time.

Psalms 90:10
The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

The television brought sight as well as sound and it gave us eye witness accounts of thing that happen around the world, we could now see it for ourselves. It has also brought into our homes things we ought not to see, the killing of men, scantly dressed woman, sins of the imagination. It’s so easy to watch. Some would say, “If it’s not appropriate, change the channel”. But it’s so easy to take another peak of things that should not be seen. Again we lost something valuable, self control.

Job 31:1
I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

Psalm 101:3l
I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

What is even more distressing is that we have placed this thing in our homes in our children reach. It has desensitized us and our children to what is right and what is wrong. The information is not accurate and opposing to our God. Once again we are losing something valuable, our children.

Proverb 1:1-7
My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

There are no bounds for men; we have gone into the oceans and outer space. We have build things very small and very large. We now even talk to the dead! There are people, trying to contact the dead as we watch. Some may say, “Will you stop! Its just entertainment!” Is it? What does God say about such matters

Leviticus 19:31
Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.

Deuteronomy 18:9-12
When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you [any one] that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

Isaiah 8:19
And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

Can we continue watch and listen to these things and tell ourselves that it won’t affect (maybe infect?) me or my family.

Romans 1:28-32
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same,
but have pleasure in them that do them
.

We need to separate ourselves from the world and be Gods particular people. This may not be easy to do. Television is has a luring appeal, the lights, the flashes, and shining things. It’s a tough daily obedience to stay away from this thing, but prayer is essential in all matters. God will help us with all our burdens. Amen
